Fort Wilderness is one of the three original resorts at Walt Disney World (the others are the Contemporary and the Polynesian). The resort consists of 799 campsites and 409 cabins on a huge 700-acre wooded plot. Fort Wilderness is wonderfully “undeveloped” when compared to the rest of the Orlando area! We wanted to see the effects of the Hurricane Michael last fall. The base, town, and campground are still in poor shape visually. This was once our most favorite campground. The base had over 850+ base housing that was totally destroyed. Campground is full with essential personnel who have to be here but cannot get suitable housing.

The top tier campsites at Fort Wilderness are the Premium campsites, which larger at 18′ x 60′. These are ideal for RVs in the 40 ft range or with many slides. The size of these sites is what makes them premium sites. Full Hook-Up, Preferred, and Premium, sites all have water, electric, and sewer hook-ups. I am trying to decide between a partial hookup site and preferred for a quick trip down in September. Won't spend much time in the campground, but looking at a preferred for convenience. Since there is a $30 a day difference, I am wondering how large the sand lots on the preferred sites are. Much like the Premium Campsite, the Premium Meadow Campsite offers room for a larger-style RV, accommodates equipment on a concrete pad up to 18 feet by 60 feet, and a sewage hook-up, but it also boasts close proximity to the Meadow Trading Post, Meadow Recreation Area, Bike Barn, and Campfire Area.

There are also several air conditioned Comfort Stations located throughout the campground, and these stations feature private showers and toilets, telephones, laundry facilities and ice machines.

Dining options at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground include the nightly dinner show Hoop-De-Doo Musical Revue, which features a comedic show and an all-American family style meal. The Trail’s End Restaurant is also available for casual dining, and guests can visit Crockett’s Tavern for nachos, pizza and more served from a full bar.
